Featured Artist of the Week: Sound Cannon

>> Thursday, February 26, 2009

This week's Featured Artist has become one of the most beloved young bands in Central Florida within the past year. The reasons for their sudden popularity are plentiful, and their excellence extends beyond any listener's human senses.

The band is SOUND CANNON.

At first listen, anyone would be struck enough to acknowledge the raw musical talents laced within. The vocals are solid, the rhythm section is tight, and that guitarist..... he shreds! The listener would be extremely surprised to find out that guitarist Jared Hara is not only a young man, but he is also blind. His remarkable talent must be seen to be believed. He is truly incredible!

Their current show schedule lends itself to their extremely hard work. On Saturday, February 28th for instance, Sound Cannon is playing two shows. They are playing during the day at the Black Box Collective and that night at the Haven.

Most importantly, however, Sound Cannon will be playing this year's Rock For Hunger Spring show on March 12th at BackBooth. Just in case you have to be reminded, they will be appearing with There for Tomorrow, G-Ro and the Sneakers, Senate and Karrigan.

Featured Artist of the Week: There For Tomorrow

>> Thursday, February 19, 2009

The 2009 Rock For Hunger Spring Show is less than a month away. On March 12th, G-Ro & the Sneakers, Karrigan, Senate, and this week's Featured Artist. This show should be one of the best RFH events yet and we are happy to have such a stellar lineup in tact.

Recent mtvU Woodie recipients, There For Tomorrow, will grace the BackBooth stage as headliners of this year's highly anticipated springtime event. If you have never heard the Orlando natives' music before, you can obviously check them out on MySpace by clicking here.

For such a young band, it is truly amazing to see all that they have been able to accomplish. Right now, TFT is on tour with We The Kings, The Maine, The Cab and RFH Fest 3 Co-Headliners, Versa Emerge.

Read all about the upcoming show and purchase tickets by clicking here.

We hope to see you at BackBooth on March 12th for the show.

Talk 4 Hunger update - Donors Wanted

Talk 4 Hunger should be ready to launch next week Wednesday. Next week Wednesday we plan on having the launch party for the first edition of Talk 4 Hunger. I’m currently working on finalizing the paper with our amazing graphic design interns. If there are any potential advertisers out there that would like to make a small contribution to help launch the first edition of Talk 4 Hunger, please contact me: chris@rockforhunger.org.

The goal of the paper is to create jobs for the needy backed with financial training courses based on the Dave Ramsey theory from Financial Peace University. We will help teach individuals how to budget their income, and spend it wisely. I’m using the budget system everyday with every dollar I make now. It has thought me a lot with being responsible with my finances. With this struggling economy it’s very important to work on creating new jobs, and teaching individuals how to manage their income.

Another big goal for Talk 4 Hunger is to provide a voice for the voiceless, and talk about local happenings within our community. The first issue of Talk 4 Hunger will be released March 1st for our March 2009 edition. Again, to be part of this amazing new project to help better our Central Florida community, please e-mail me: chris@rockforhunger.org.

Featured Artist of the Week: Laura Reed & Deep Pocket

>> Thursday, February 12, 2009

Although most of the performing artists at RFH Fest 3 certainly rocked the stages, only few stood out amongst the rest. Laura Reed & Deep Pocket was arguably one of the most pleasant of surprises. They were hyped by some Rock for Hunger Committee members, but nobody knew much of them. Lo and behold, the day of the show comes around and Laura Reed's gang tore it up! They quickly became one of the organization's favorite touring musical acts.

Laura Reed & Deep Pocket's band members hail from a scattered mix of Asheville, NC and Atlanta, GA. Fortunately, the group will be traveling through Orlando, FL on Friday, February 27th. Laura will get to rock the Plaza Theatre again - but this time on the smaller stage. She will be performing with local celebrities G-Ro and the Sneakers. There is a rumor going around that The Sneakers will feature an arsenal of special guests. That's just something I heard, though.

Check out Laura Reed & Deep Pocket at: http://www.myspace.com/laurareedmusic

We'll see you at the Plaza Theate on February 27th.

Featured Artist of the Week: Ronyai

>> Saturday, February 7, 2009

Unfortunately, this Artist of the Week post comes a little too late. It is the morning of Saturday, February 7th. The highlighted artist was supposed to be promoted for a Friday night, February 6th show at the Plaza Theatre. Admittedly, I dropped the ball on this post after suffering through a very busy week and leaving town for a wedding (which is where I am as I write this). My leaving town has even rendered me absent for the first 2009 RFH Board Meeting.

Regardless, this post will still pay homage to the talents of the "Mr. Vintage" himself... Ronyai!

Ronyai performed on the Whole Foods stage at RFH Fest 3. His unique beatboxing and vocal melodies creates a seemingly "one man show" that leaves you wanting more. He dances, he sings and he entertains like no other. And that's what makes RFH adore him so much.

Check out his MySpace page for more information.
