It’s the day that you all have been waiting for. The final four candidates for the Rock for Hunger 2008 Artist of the Year! All four of these candidates represent the mission of Rock for Hunger every day of their lives, and truly are the “Change we want to see in the WORLD!” The winner will be announced next week Monday December 22nd at the Rock for Hunger Christmas Party & Movie Night for the Homeless at Lake Eola. The event will take place from 6:15pm-9pm and will include food, popcorn, drinks, snacks, and much more.
This Monday the finally four nominees for the 2008 Rock for Hunger Artist of the Year will be announced!!! Before we get there we have one more artist that has reached the Top 10 2008 Artists that Rock for Hunger! It is our newest Rock for Hunger Fest committee member and Volunteer Coordinator, Emily Sessoms. From day she filled in on a very though role of being the volunteer coordinator with all the volunteers already recruited. Not only did she do an awesome job with handling all the volunteers, but Emily has also raised money from a ton of ticket sales, and played at both our 2nd Annual Night of Music 4 Peace at Ten Thousand Villages and at Rock for Hunger Fest 3. Emily is an individual who is truly passionate in using her music to change people’s lives. Now she is off planning her own festival to benefit many different charities, and if she is still in town has stepped up to the plate to be the Volunteer Coordinator for Rock for Hunger Fest 4 next year. Emily truly lives up to the quote from Bono “Music can CHANGE the WORLD, because Music can CHANGE PEOPOLE.”
Our first out of town band has entered the 2008 Rock for Hunger Top 10 Artists of the Year. There is nobody more deserving than Passafire to be here. Passafire has been excited about the cause since the day they accepted the show offer to be part of Rock for Hunger Fest 3. They are a very talented Reggae/Rock band out of Savannah, GA. I always say that if Incubus became a reggae band they would be Passafire. They are part of Law Records started by Pepper, which also features Orlando’s The Supervillains. A month before the show we had the pleasure of meeting Passafire and their super cool tour Manager Adam. G-Ro interviewed them for Rock for Hunger, and they were very passionate about the cause and spreading the message of reggae, empowering people all over the world. They put on a fantastic set at Rock for Hunger Fest. We are excited to have this amazing band part of the Rock for Hunger Family, and part of the Top 10 Artists of 2008. I hope Passafire will stop back by at a Rock for Hunger show in 2009.
Another step closer to finding out the final nominees for the 2008 Rock for Hunger Artist of the Year Award!!! Coming in at #7 it’s my favorite new band in Central Florida, Afterglow Radio! If you have not got a copy of their new album “Find Yourself Again,” be sure to pick on up today. Go to their myspace for more info: www.myspace.com/afterglowradio. From the day AGR and I met, they were fully supportive of the cause, and were proud to play their first Rock for Hunger Fest this year. Drummer Jorge even volunteered his time to help out with stage management duties throughout the fest this year. AGR plans on hitting the road full time next year. Coming out of Orlando, FL we look forward to this very talented band to represent us proud in 2009! Thank you for Rockin for Hunger!!!
Help us reach our goal of Raising $500 for our Christmas Party for the Homeless!!!
We are getting closer each day to finding out who the final four candidates for the Rock for Hunger 2008 Artist of the Year. Coming in at #8 is Rock for Hunger Fest 2 & 3 performing artist Social Ghost. This band has been supportive of our mission for close to two years now. Social Ghost was kind enough to open the Festival this year brining in extra people and allowing the iRock for Hunger Battle of the Bands winner, Black Ship Sky, to take their spot. This is a band that is truly dedicated to the cause and not in it for them. They are planning a massive album release for the New Year! Be sure to keep checking their myspace for when it’s going to be released. Hopefully they will pack out House of Blues or Hard Rock Live this year. This is a band that is going to do big things and represent Orlando proud in 2009! Keep up the great work!
The Rock for Hunger 2008 Artist of the Year Top 10 Countdown continues. Coming at #9 is one of Rock for Hunger's newest Family Members: BLACK SHIP SKY!!! We are very proud to have met such passionate and talented individuals such as Kris Kahn and the entire Black Ship Sky gang. Black Ship Sky is the winner of the inaugural iRock for Hunger Battle of the Bands 2008. They dominated the competition in the first round, and come out with a close victory over another RFH favorite, Johnny Plastic & the Rubber Band in the finals. In their two shows they have raised over 6-15 Gallon Tots of Food, and over $1,200 in funds for the organization. Thanks for their efforts we have made a new partner with TJ Max. We are so very proud to have Black Ship Sky part of the Rock for Hunger family. Thank you guys for everything you do!

The 2008 Rock for Hunger Artist of the Year Top 10 Countdown has begun!!! We are very proud that Union Made has made the Top 10 of 2008 that Rock for Hunger. Not to take anything away from this amazing band, whenever mentioning Union Made, I have to give a huge shout out to their singer and Rock for Hunger Board of Director, Drew Petrone. He has been a real blessing to us since day one. An individual who has been very passionate about the cause from the first event we have ever done, and has given so much to help make our mission and work possible. It was a great pleasure to add this amazing individual to our Board of Directors this year. He is going to be heading our Creative team, and will be part of the “Talk 4 Hunger” committee. We will have more info on “Talk 4 Hunger” very soon, or check out the official website for more info http://www.rockforhunger.org/.
Union Made is an amazing funk/rock band out of Orlando, FL who reminds me of old school Red Hot Chili Peppers. Way back from the “True Men Don’t Kill Coyotes” days. Some really good old school funk with fun drinking songs, and they throw in a little bit of in your face punk rock in songs like “Kick in the Face.” Union Made was part of Rock for Hunger Fest 3, and our Rock for Hunger Spring Show 2008. It is a great pleasure to have Union Made be in the Top 10 Artists that Rock for Hunger in 2008.

One of the main things that every business or nonprofit organization does when they are launched is create a website. Your website may not be getting any traffic, but it is there in case people are seeking information. Well how will someone ever find that information if you don’t know anything about Search Engine Optimization, how long you should own your domain, web design, or Social Media Marketing?
Rock for Hunger is lucky to have a very talented Board Member who is an expert in Social Media marketing and also the current marketing chair for Orlando nonprofit organization doterati. Through his training and expertise, Rock for Hunger has begun using blogs, you tube videos, twitter, flickr, myspace, facebook, and the list goes on and on. There have are so many creative ways you can use Social Media Marketing on the web to create traffic to you site. Perfect example, if you google search “Thanksgiving Volunteer Orlando” Rock for Hunger is still the 1st and 2nd site that comes up. See below:
If you google search “Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunity Orlando” Rock for Hunger is the 1st site that comes up.
If it wasn’t through all the skills we have learned from members of doterati such as Greg Rollett, Elizabeth Baranik, and many others, we would have no idea on how to use Social Media Marketing, SEO, or do anything on the web period. doterati’s mission is to:
To advance the Central Florida interactive marketing, media and technology community by serving as an association for professional development, education, community networking and overall inspiration for our digital society.
As a member of doterati you can learn many skills and have the ability to be part of many great events such as their upcoming “What Can Web Analytics Do For You?” featuring guest speaker Jim Novo, Vice-President of Programming and Marketing at the Home Shopping Network. The event will be at the Downtown Library on Wednesday December 10th from 6pm-8pm.
Don't believe in Social Media Marketing? How many of you were friends with Barack Obama on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc. Did you find out about his VP pick via Text Message? Maybe you saw all his you tube videos? Go to his site, and check out his Obama Everywhere section, and see for yourself how powerful Social Media can be. Be sure to check out doterati.com for more info on the event and how to become a member.
PS: My first event with them was amazing! There were several CEO Guest speakers who run successful companies. I was so motivated from this presentation, that I left to promote Rock for Hunger Fest 3 30 miles away from the event. It just so happened that the event fulfilled it’s purpose with me being motivated and taking action for my company Rock for Hunger. It also just happened that I won the free doterati membership from the drawing, and wasn’t there to claim it. They gave it to someone else. Yes, I’m still bitter about that J But I’ll get over it.
Is anyone keeping track of who has been celebrated as the "Featured Artist" the most? If anyone is keeping score, I would actually like to know. There is no question that this week's would be in the running, because she has not only had a prominent presence for Rock for Hunger but for the Orlando community as a whole. And now that she has spearheaded her own charity and subsequent events, she has become a force to be reckoned with.
The purpose of this Featured Artist spotlight is to highlight "Rock Pink" - her own organization that she has become so dedicated to. Rock Pink's Mission Statement says:
"To bring music and humanity together center stage to raise breast health awareness and to make the road to recovery as easy as possible for as many as possible whenever possible."
Cori has found a cause that she cares for and taken it into her own hands. She deserves to be commended for that. Coincidentally, you will be able to do that at Rock Pink's Merry Monster Christmas Show at the Cheyenne Saloon this Saturday, December 6th.
