An Era of Change: The Generation of WE

>> Wednesday, November 5, 2008

As a nonprofit leader it is frowned upon to support a certain political party, or a certain political issue. However, it is the job of every American, and every American company or organization to support our President. Now that the election is over, we are here to proudly support our President Elect Barack Obama!!! As John McCain said “we must offer our next president our goodwill and earnest effort to find ways to come together.” We have officially entered an ERA OF CHANGE! This morning I had one of my dearest neighbors call me, and thanked me for knocking on doors, making phone calls, and telling people to go out to vote. She told me that she remembered the days when she was looked at as dirt, and was spit on for being a woman of color and charisma. She remembered when she had to be segregated and use the colored water fountain, or the colored bathroom. There were days when she had to go into the back door of the dentists’ office, and get her teeth pulled and worked on without any Novocain or medication. She was so proud of all the young people who have finally spoken, and whose voices were finally heard, and said ENOUGH! For decades many of our fellow Americans have suffered and were looked down upon. This era is over, and an era of change has begun.

Two years ago, the media doubted that Barack Obama could pull it off. But with his hard work and grassroots efforts, and passion to motivate, organize, his understanding of the needs and cries of the American people, and gain of support from millions of young Americans in our country whose voices were finally heard, Barack Obama has begun the era of Change. It is now time that we follow in the foot steps of our President elect, and begin the era of WE! This is OUR election; WE said that WE want CHANGE! Now it is time for us to change, and for us to stand TOGETHER as AMERICANS! As we expect our newly President elect Barack Obama to follow through on his words, he also expects us to follow through on ours. We need to continue helping and supporting our neighbors in need, we need to turn of our television sets and pay attention to our children’s education so they can be successful, we need to learn from and respect our elders, we need to work together to find cures for cancer and disease, we need to work together that our fellow Americans and soldiers that gave their life for this country don’t have to sleep on the streets, it is our duty to make sure that no American child must go to bed hungry, and as our President elect Barack Obama says, we need to stand TOGETHER no matter what the color of our skin, no matter what political party we support, gay or straight, disabled or not disabled, old or young; we need to stand TOGETHER as AMERICANS! It’s time for CHANGE, and it begins with us. We need to “be the CHANGE we want to see in THE WORLD.”
