the Week in Rock for Hunger (4/7/2008)

We have been taking some time off from the blog in the past few days, but are back strong starting this week. Rock for Hunger is feeling some big time expansions this week. We are currently looking for a storage space with electricity to keep food from over five food donors, children’s books, clothes, and everything else that all you wonderful volunteers, and supporters are donating. Also, we are in the plans of expanding to a second night in Orlando and having a group in Lake County, Ft. Lauderdale, and Tampa. There is no way we would be able to do this without all of you!!! Be sure to fill out a Volunteer Interest Survey (FYI: this link is a Word Document) and e-mail it to volunteer@rockforhunger.org, or bring it to any of the events below. Here are some great events we have coming up this week in Rock for Hunger:

MONDAY – Food Preparation for Food Sharing
Help us cook all the great food that we get to bring each week to downtown to feed the homeless. E-mail our chef Tee for details and how to help out with the cooking send her a message at tee@rockforhunger.org. Cooking takes place from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

MONDAY – Food Sharing (Orlando, FL)
As always our weekly food sharing takes place from 6:45pm to 8pm in downtown Orlando, FL. Our meeting point is the parking lot on the corner of Magnolia and Washington in Downtown Orlando. For info and details e-mail us at volunteer@rockforhunger.org.

TUESDAY – EXPO-TEES w/ Phat-n-Jazzy & Swamburger @ The Social (Orlando, FL)
Join us for an evening of Music, Art, and T-Shirts at the Social for Expo-Tees! Also, it is Swamburgers Birthday, make sure you tell him what’s up, and thanks for always thinking of us! The Social is located at 54 N. Orange Ave. Orlando, FL 32801.

WEDNESDAY – Job Training/Housing Assistance (Orlando, FL)
Meet us at the Downtown Library and help someone find a job, housing, help build resumes, and help with any other needed services. We are meeting with Volunteers for a quick orientation at 6pm in the Magnolia Room on the 3rd floor of the Library downtown located at 101 E. Central Ave. Orlando, FL 32801. Those looking for jobs, housing, and more will meet us there at 6:30pm.

THURSDAY – Caffeine for the Artistic Soul @ Full Sail (Orlando, FL)
Come to Full Sail for a great Art Show event. This will take place behind Building 3 on the Full Sail campus located on the corner of University Blvd and Forsyth in Orlando, FL. Check flyer below for address and details.

FRIDAY – Tutors & Meals (Orlando, FL)
Join us for Tutors & Meals at the John H. Jackson Center in Downtown Orlando. This week we will be making food for 50 kids living in the Parramore area of Orlando. Join us feed children in need in our local community. For more info you can send us an e-mail at volunteer@rockforhunger.org.

FRIDAY – Munk Tung @ The Haven (Winter Park, FL)SA
Check out last weeks Artist of the Week Munk Tung at the Haven for an amazing performance. The Haven is located at 6700 Aloma Ave. Winter Park, FL 32792. It is only 5 miles from UCF, and 1 mile from Full Sail on the corner of Almoa and Forsyth.

SATURDAY – GET YOUR SPRING CONCERT TICKETS!!!
