Gloabl Issues: Peace for Kenya?

A power-sharing agreement was signed by Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki, and now Prime Minister Raila Odinga, followed by a hand shake as a symbol of peace for Kenya. This is big news after the elections back in December of 2007 that caused a huge outbreak of violence in Kenya killing over 1,000 people.
Kibaki and Odinga, both in blue suits, looked stoic as they signed the deal,The Prime Minister Odinga is going to have the power to “coordinate and supervise” government affairs according to the Associated Press article. It is still unclear how much real power the Prime Minister will really have over the President, and especially when it comes to executive decisions. Some people believe that having two powers will create even more separation in Kenya. They President and Prime Minister are working on editing the Constitution, adding the Prime Minister position and its powers. This seems like it can still continue to be a very difficult process in finally brining peace between Kenyans. Let’s hope for the people of Kenya that a mutual agreement will be made in the power-sharing and that the two sides can work together in peace.
