Featured Artist of the Week: Backrive

>> Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Rock isn't dead. In fact, it's alive, breathing, and better than ever. The proof of this is in the myriad of young up and coming bands that continue to ascend from their respective hometowns time and time again. In Orlando, for example, it is overwhelming just trying to mutter all of the great rock bands in one breath. Leading the pack, however, is a heavy rock band that is most deserving of recognition in the Central Florida area - and their name is Backrive.

For a few years now, Backrive has been one of the hardest working rock bands in Central Florida. Organically, the band has congregated mass appeal with their malevolent, yet contradictory miasmic sound. This blend of barbarous music, which cleverly incorporates tasteful screaming, and infectious melodies make for a rare decadent treat for any nu-rock fan. In addition to their recorded tunes, the band's live show is relentless - an intense spectacle which leaves the observer in a state of shock at its conclusion.

The 2nd Annual Rock for Hunger Concert had the pleasure of hosting Backrive on the inside stage of the event. In the last year, not only have Backrive shown a genuine desire to aid in Rock for Hunger and its mission, but they have also built a very strong relationship with some of its committee members. Rock for Hunger wouldn't have the chance to thrive and continue daily tasks and objectives without the ongoing support from amazing local artists like Backrive.

With a new album in the works and a progressively expanding tour schedule, it is apparent that Backrive is in it for the long haul. With tracks like "Cut N Half" and "She Said," stardom is not a notion to dismiss from their immediate future. For fans of bands like Sevendust, Nonpoint, and Chevelle, do not overlook a diamond buried in the rough. Backrive is a band that is waiting to be discovered.

Be sure to check them out Saturday night at Backbooth with Unsaid and Traverser.
