Tutors and Meals in the Central Florida Future
>> Tuesday, January 15, 2008
Whitney Hamrick form the UCF paper Central Florida Future, is showed some Rock for Hunger love again in yesterday’s School paper. This time she covered our Tutors and Meals program which needs a lot of support. We are in need of tutors, books, and funding. Our goal is to open our own after school program that will help children from k-12 succeed in school by developing their math and reading skills. It is also important to us to tutor them in essay writing for scholarships, and with College applications. To learn more about the Rock for Hunger Tutors and Meals program in Orlando, Florida check out the website for more info. Here is a clip from the article:
Kids from low-income families were given a bite to eat and a little knowledge,
courtesy of a UCF student group. Rock for Hunger, a student organization,
started an after-school program during fall 2007 to help more than 40 children
from the Paramore district of downtown Orlando. Tutors and Meals takes place
every Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the John H. Jackson Community Center on
Carter Street. The group hopes to one day run its own center and provide its
services every day but needs more space. Getting volunteers and funding has
proven to be the largest obstacle to this goal.
Check out the full article on the Central Florida Future Website. Thanks Whitney for the great story!
