Rock for Hunger Awareness: Did your Diamond kill someone?
>> Monday, January 21, 2008
Congratulations on your engagement, birthday, or other special engagement. Did you get a nice diamond as a present? Do you know where your diamond came from? Diamonds now days usually come from Botswana, Russia, South Africa, Angola, Nambia, Australia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leon, and rarely from Canada, and in the United States from Colorado and Arkansas. There are a few other countries such as Brazil, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana, India, Venezuela, China, Zimbabwe, Guniea, and Guyana. This is something you really want to know when it comes from learning where your diamond comes from. If your diamond comes from Central or West African countries there is almost a 100% chance that your diamond may be a BLOOD DIAMOND.
What is a Blood Diamond? Blood Diamonds are also know as conflict diamonds, dirty diamonds, or war diamonds, because they are “mined in a war zone and sold usually clandestinely, in order to finance an insurgency, invading army’s war efforts, or supporting warlord’s activity.” In simpler words: Innocent women, children, men, and families have been brutally murdered for your fancy diamond. Also, children have been, and are being kidnapped and turned into child soldiers. These child soldiers are trained to kill their families, friends, and neighbors. The areas in the world most affected by this crisis include: Sierra Leon, Ivory Coast, Liberia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Please spread the word of Blood Diamonds, and find out where your diamonds come from. If you plan on buying a Diamond for someone, do your research, and stop supporting Blood Diamonds! For more info on how to stop the spread of Blood Diamonds visit http://www.stopblooddiamonds.org/.
Consumer Awareness about Blood Diamonds:
As a consumer, you can share you awareness with other people. Let the whole
world know about the situation in Africa and how people are suffering because of
conflict diamonds. Ultimately, the power lies in your hands as you are the end
target of the rough diamonds. The buyers indirectly put the money in the hands
of the producers. If you don't patronize their product, then there will be no
market for them and they would be left with essentially worthless goods. http://www.stopblooddiamonds.org/.
