Plans to End Homelessness in Central Florida

>> Friday, January 25, 2008

Happy Friday January 25! On January 25, 1949 the first Emmy awards were presented at the Hollywood Athletic Club, and also John F. Kennedy delivered the first National television News Conference on January 25, 1961. Now on to our regular scheduled program about plans to end homelessness, and news you can find on Fox Orlando. After doing some research on homelessness, I found that Fox Orlando covers a lot of stories on the homeless situation. Visit Fox Orlando for more info. News for 2008 are plans to End Homelessness in 10 years. The Seminole County Commission presented a 10 year plan to end homelessness in 10 years:

Also, the Central Florida regional commission will propose their 10 year plan to end homelessness this Monday at 3:30pm. Plans include everything from shelter, to job training, support groups, and more.

Their plans are things that organizations like Rock for Hunger, the Ripple Effect, and many others in Orlando have been striving to do for years. Has these organizations efforts finally awakened the County Commissions on how we can end this problem of the homeless situation? At least they finally have a plan, or another plan. There are many reasons people end up homeless such as: lack of affordable health care, lack of education, natural disasters, divorce, injuries, death in family, substance abuse, mental disorders, domestic violence, and many other causes. In order to end homelessness, we must find ways to support people suffering from all these problems, and providing support to people living pay check to pay check. Those are the one at the biggest risk of becoming homeless. If we have over 8,000 homeless in Central Florida, and help 2,000 of them, we have to make sure that not another 2,000 in the process fall into homelessness.

Our plans on helping the homeless need to be plans on supporting the middle class as well, and preventing our middle class citizens from falling into homelessness. Otherwise, the cycle will continue, and another plan of ending homelessness will fail. On a side note, watch for better news than Tony Rezko posing with presidential candidates in the next few days from the Rock for Hunger camp. We have a really great story of success from our Employment Guide job fair last week. Everyone have a happy and safe weekend!
