Happy New Year!!! It’s time for a year of peace, and making a difference! This year Rock for Hunger plans on feeding more people, and helping more individuals get off the streets and live a self sufficient life. Also, we are seeking to expand our tutoring programs to help teens and youth in low income neighborhoods succeed in school and go to college. Another important thing we need to focus on in 2008 is our presidential race. The only we can ever end poverty, and make a difference locally is by voting for people who care to help us do the same. It is highly important that we get involved in our presidential race, and VOTE!!! Only about 49-55% of those eligible to vote, have voted in the past elections. We can’t make a difference if we don’t vote. Check out Rock the Vote to learn everything you need to know about Voting, and getting registered to vote.

Next thing, who are the candidates running in 2008? It is not up to us to tell you who the best candidate is. It is up to you to decide who the best candidate is by learning and educating yourself about who the candidates are, and by determining what you stand for. Don’t let anyone else tell you what you stand for, or who you should vote for. The choice is all yours. Here are some helpful sites to learn about your candidates:

Wikipedia – Great Encyclopedia telling you everything about when elections take place, primaries, caucuses, and the candidates.

You Tube – Check out videos of them speaking, and debating

MySpace – More cool info on all the candidates and Upcoming Events

ONE.org – The One Campaign has info on how they stand when it comes to poverty, malaria, HIV/AIDS, etc.

Why are we starting the year with this Presidential Stuff?

That is because starting this month you make the decision on who will run for each party at different primaries, and caucuses. It all starts this Thursday in Iowa with the a major electoral event the Iowa Caucus. Click here on more info on the: Iowa Caucus.

January is a new phase in the Elections and it is with the Presidential Primaries, and Caucuses. Here are some more important Dates:

January 3 – Iowa Caucus
January 8 – New Hampshire Primary
January 15 – Michigan Primary
January 19 – Nevada Caucus
January 19 – South Carolina Republican Primary
January 26 – South Carolina Democratic Primary
January 29 – Florida Primary
February 5 – SUPER TUESDAY (Over 20 states have their primaries on this date).

Also check out Rock the Caucus from Rock the Vote!

It is up to you to decide who runs for each party at the end of the year. Let your voices be heard. Let’s make 2008 a year of people standing up for each other. Please feel free to leave your comments and let us know which candidates you like and why. It is important to make sure everyone is as educated as possible on all the different candidates, and issues they stand for. Keep checking our blog for more info on the presidential race, getting involved in your community, cool stuff, music, art, peace, and great Rock for Hunger events that we have in store for you in 2008! Let's make America Rock for Hunger with Music & Peace!
