Central Florida Future Spotlight Monday Night Feeding
>> Wednesday, November 7, 2007
Whitney Hamrick, writer for the Central Florida Future has been hanging out with us at Rock For Hunger for a few days now, getting to know us, our organization and get a grip on the homeless and poverty situation in Central Florida and more specifically, Downtown Orlando. What transpired at our recent Monday night feeding was a great warmth in all of our hearts as we again were able to help over 100 people get a warm meal, beverages and more importantly a sense that the real world cares about them and there is a way out.
Here's a clip from the article:The vacant windows of the Post Office shed light over the crowd of homeless as they occupy the steps, benches and sidewalks feasting on a full meal seldom enjoyed in life on the streets.
"The beginning of the month is usually slower because that's when they get their checks," said Rock for Hunger President Chris Goyzueta, 25, who will be returning to UCF in the spring for a master's degree in public relations.
"It was busier for the first Monday of the month," said Greg Rollett, 25, UCF alumnus. "We weren't expecting this much."
